Mr. Stretchy
After lunch, the class went to the library. Jonah took Mr. Stretchy. Macy took her pen. She also took her ticket. She did not want to lose it.
Miss Snow told everyone to try hard to earn tickets. Then she went back to their classroom. That woman needed a rest.
Mrs. Carver was the librarian. Macy was going to make some good choices for that lady to catch.
She tip-toed to find a book. On the top shelf was one called Amazing Science. Macy laid her clicky pen down and pulled out the book.
“Cool!” Jonah bounced over next to her. “Can I read that?”
“No, I’m about to check it out.” Macy tucked her ticket in the book. That would be her safe keeping spot. She would probably get another ticket for following library rules. She would put that one in the book, too.
“If you let me see your book, I’ll let you play with Mr. Stretchy.” Jonah held out the blue blob.
That thing did look fun. “Okay, but just for a minute.” Macy handed Jonah the book. He gave her the blob.
She pulled Mr. Stretchy as far as she could. Stretch, stretch, stretch, SNAP. Oh, no! Who knew that guy could fly? Smack! He crash-landed on Mrs. Carver’s head. Macy sucked in her breath. She did not know Mrs. Carver’s eyes could get so big. “Macy Joy Mills, what was that?”
“I was trying out Jonah’s stretchy thing. I didn’t mean to let it go.”
Jonah picked up the blob. “It’s Mr. Stretchy. I let Macy hold him while I looked at her book.”
He showed Mrs. Carver Amazing Science. Then he told her about the experiments they had done in class. “I think the salt trick will work on snot, too! I’ll try it next time I sneeze on a library book. I’ll let you know how it goes. You might want to keep salt in the library just in case.”
Mrs. Carver’s eyes got even bigger. Just then, Samantha walked up with Macy’s pen. “I found this in the science section, Mrs. Carver.” She held it out. “I knew you would want me to bring it to you. Now, the other children won’t use it to draw in library books.”
“Thank you, Samantha. That was a good choice.” Hey, what was Mrs. Carver doing? First, she put Macy’s pen in a drawer. Then, she handed Smarty-Pants Samantha a ticket. No fair! Macy stared at that girl. Samantha smiled and skipped away.Macy and Jonah had to walk laps at recess. They missed ten whole minutes. Plus, Miss Snow said Jonah could not bring Mr. Stretchy to school anymore. Too bad. That blob came in handy. Now what would Jonah do?
