Art Teacher at Last
Somebody made a video of that whole chicken adventure. They put it on YouTube. Bella was right. Flappy was famous. Macy, Bella and Jonah were in the video, too. So were the goat and the pig.
Mr. Betts, the art teacher, saw it. He called Mama and asked if Macy and Flappy could help teach kindergarten. He wanted them to show how to paint with feathers. Plus that guy probably needed a rest from teaching kids. Mama said yes! Yay! Also, Mr. Betts said Bella and Jonah could help, too.
On Friday, Macy put on the art teacher shirt from Nurse White’s office. She rode the bus to school. Mama said she would bring Flappy later. Macy was going to teach art, at last!
Right when Macy got off the bus, she saw Samantha. That girl had on a fancy dress. She skipped over to Macy. “Guess what,” she said, “My mama said a T.V. guy is coming and I get to be his helper. My Mama is in charge of the whole school.” Samantha did a twirl. Her dress flew around her. Hey! She had on fuzzy pink socks like Macy’s. She better watch out. Those things were not that lucky.
After lunch, Miss Snow said Macy could go to the art room. Mr. Betts showed her a table with everything she would need to run her very own center.
Mama brought Flappy and stayed to help even though Macy knew all about how to teach art in kindergarten.
Mr. Betts had a table, too. It was called the egg coloring center. That guy did not get to rest, after all.

When everything was ready the kindergarten kids walked in and sat on the rug. Miss Snow did a wink at Macy. And then that lady sat down. She did not even need to go back to their room for a break, apparently. Mr. Betts let Macy show them Flappy. Bella showed them Flappy’s painting. Jonah showed them Mr. Stretchy. He got to bring him back for just that day. He showed how to make him fly. “But don’t try this at home,” he said.

Macy had five students at her center. She let them all pet Flappy. That chicken was a star. After that, she showed them how to paint with a feather.
“I can’t have a feather,” said a boy named Mac. “I’m allergic to birds with feathers.”
“Don’t worry,” Mama said. “These feathers didn’t come off a bird. They came from a store.”
“I’m allergic to all kinds of birds,” said a girl named Tory. “Even the ones that don’t have feathers and live in a store.”
Macy gave those two kids brushes. She gave the other kids feathers.
“I don’t want a pink one.” A girl named Shay held out her feather. “I want red.”
“Take what you get and don’t pitch a fit,” said a boy named Rex.
Shay stuck out her tongue at him.
Macy gave Shay a red feather and they all started painting.
“Tickle, tickle.” A boy named Ben stuck his feather in Shay’s face. He got paint in her eye. Mama took her to the sink.
Macy looked around. Where was Flappy?
